HOW MUCH DO WE CHARGE FOR AUTO SERVICE AND REPAIRS?
Our clients often ask us, “How much will it be to…?” The answer is often: “It depends.” This is because we need to see and inspect the vehicle in order to prepare an accurate repair estimate for you. Once we see the vehicle, we can determine what it needs, as well as confirm the year, make, model and vehicle identification number (VIN). The latter is crucial for pricing and ordering the correct parts.
To give you a sense of how we operate, here is some baseline pricing information:
VISUAL INSPECTIONS
We do not charge for basic visual inspections, including Brakes, Belts and Hoses, Suspension and Steering (for physical damage or leaking), Tires (for treadwear and general condition) and engine fluids.
BRAKE INSPECTION
Because good brakes are vital to your safety, we offer free visual brake inspections. We remove all four tires and inspect the brake pads or shoes, calipers, rotors or drums, and the brake fluid. (Note: If your ABS light is on, that requires a Level 1 Diagnostic.)
TIRE ROTATION
Tire rotations are free at Auto Lab when you buy a set of four tires from us. If your tires are new or you bought them elsewhere, a tire rotation is $15 with an oil change and $30 as a stand-alone service.
OIL CHANGE – REGULAR
Our oil changes include a standard oil filter and up to 5 quarts of conventional engine oil. We also fully inspect the vehicle, top off fluids and adjust tire pressure. See our article on, “Why We’ll Never Do a $9.95 Oil Change Special.”
OIL CHANGE – SYNTHETIC
Synthetic oil changes include a standard oil filter and 5 quarts of synthetic engine oil. Some European cars use special oil and cartridge oil filters, which add to the cost. We also fully inspect the vehicle, top off fluids and adjust tire pressure. Read our article on, “Why We’ll Never Do a $9.95 Oil Change Special.”
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
This price includes our Level 1 Diagnostic service if you see any of these lights on your dashboard: Service Engine Soon, ABS (antilock braking) or SRS (airbag). To troubleshoot, we’ll use a scan tool to retrieve diagnostic codes from the engine computer. We’ll then perform electrical and component testing to pinpoint the problem up to an hour worth of diagnostics.
